We continue to offer a comprehensive program of content studies. While accelerated programs in Math and Science meet the needs of our gifted and talented, our basic skills program used to help students achieve academic proficiency was expanded. Special education teachers were able to fully accommodate students’ needs in a regular classroom setting through inclusion/co-teaching programs. These programs were expanded and implemented into Language Arts, Science, Social Studies and our Mathematics curriculum. New study skills class on the seventh grade level was incorporated into the curriculum. The technology lab not only helped to supplement existing middle school curriculum, but was also used to prepare middle school students for the rigorous demands of high school. Smart Board Technology was introduced to our faculty as a tool to motive and enhance student performance. Math, Social Studies, Language Arts and Science students continue to rank among the highest scoring in contests that took place within Co-curricular activities encourage the social and emotional development of our students, for instance, the Student Government Organization (SGO), Builder’s Club (Key Club), Junior Math Club, & Theatre Club encourage interests and abilities both in and out of school. Examples of this can be seen in the middle school student orchestration of food, clothing, toy and money drives for the less fortunate.
Staff and students benefit and enjoy the parent involvement that has become such a welcomed part of our school community. Parent support of our middle school is a source of strength and pride. We are fortunate and very proud of the many parents who spend countless hours assisting advisors and students with major school projects. A growing student enrollment is creating the need for innovative teaching methodology. Ongoing professional staff development is addressing this issue. The purchases of new textbooks that are aligned to the Core Curriculum Standards have been approved. Finally, articulation continued for the academic content areas for grades 6 – 8 in the 2007 – 2008 school year. As a faculty, we are committed to moving our school forward. It is our goal to further reinforce an already strong academic program that will prepare our students to be future communicators, analysts, synthesizers of knowledge, critical thinkers, and life-long learners. |
